Updated: Feb 10, 2023

If you haven’t been acquainted with the powerhouse duo that is H&G Creations, please let us introduce you. Having extensive experience in innovative brand activations, corporate events, festival activations, wedding planning, prop and installation design. H&G are constantly devoted to improving and refining their creative agency services to be ahead of trends in the market; offering a highly creative, bespoke service that helps their clients stand out from the crowd.

Naturally, the pandemic has been a particularly challenging year for the events industry. But we’re not ones to rest on their laurels, H&G spent this time reflecting, adapting, and looking to make something beautiful from the remains. With a collective 48 years in experiential events, culture arts and entertainment; Deirdre, Eileen and Sinead combined all of their talents to create a brand new and exciting company called HOME, imagined during a pandemic in an effort to keep bringing people joy and experiences directly to their homes. Inspired to create ways to bring local and global communities to embrace the sweetness of a slower lifestyle with a passion to keep people smiling and happy… what’s not to love.

We are delighted to announce that they have recently launched their very own pop-up shop at the Coppinger Row Christmas Art Market, located right next door to the restaurant in Dublin’s Creative Quarter. So why not continue to support local this Christmas and pop in to check out some really beautiful work from artists by Duda, Conor Breen, Leah Hewson, Kurb Junki, Patricio Cassinoni and of course HOME themselves! #SupportLocal

CREATE & INNOVATE: AN INTERVIEW WITH H&G CREATIONS

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE EVENT TO WORK ON TO DATE?

That’s a tough one as we have had the privilege of working on so many amazing events and with so many lovely clients over the years. I would say the most challenging and rewarding to date would have been a series of events that we co- hosted with House of Yes a performance club in the heart of Brooklyn NYC. It was listed as Time Out number one experience in the world, so we were very excited to collaborate with their team to bring 2 amazing themed art parties to the people of New York. There were so many people involved including our team and performers here in Ireland that we brought over with us to NYC as well as the House of Yes team in NYC. Trying to liaise with everyone through email, voice notes, WhatsApp chats, zoom chats in different time zones. Transporting materials over to NYC and also searching the city for materials that we couldn’t bring over with us to create costumes and art installations for both events.

It was a massive undertaking but so rewarding when you saw a sold-out art space of 700+ people enjoying music, performances, and art installations curated by your team.

Here is a short documentary we made about it

WHAT WOULD YOUR DREAM EVENT LOOK LIKE IF BUDGET WAS NO ISSUE?

Turning the whole city into a walking art tour of light installations, contacting artists from both Ireland and internationally, and inviting them to take part in creating bespoke installation pieces to bring the city to life. Using a mix of historic building facades, the Liffey, disused buildings, car parks etc. to create sculptural pieces, shadow light pieces, and mapped light projection pieces. Turning the whole city into a transient art exhibition running over the course of a full weekend attracting thousands from across the globe to increase tourism and local trade for Ireland.

WHAT’S THE MOST CREATIVE/INNOVATIVE EVENT YOU’VE SEEN DURING COVID?

With the announcement of burning man being canceled this year, this was massive because it’s such a tight-knit community of people from across the globe who usually use Burning Man as their place to see their global community and come together and get innovative for 2 weeks in the desert. Burning man the organization and the whole global community came together to create a VR experience where they built a virtual Burning Man. You could walk around the entire full-scale 10K circumference of the festival, go to stages dance to music, see art installations, watch the man burn.

Everyone who took part had an avatar and could play as a DJ at virtual stages or go to virtual parties in the desert and talk to other avatars that were actual people. It was very innovative, kind of felt like a Burning Man version of the sims but with thousands of people participating and getting to socialize virtually.

HOW DO H&G TRY TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES AND PROMOTE SUSTAINABILITY?

When we are running an event or decorating a space for a client, the client usually wants to bin the materials used after they are finished with them, we will usually salvage and repurpose or recycle as much as we can. We have a storage unit full of materials that we have managed to salvage and we then use them to create art installations for the public at our public parties. Also when we are purchasing materials for events we try to buy between 60-90% of our materials within Ireland. Being a local business ourselves we know how important it is to source local.

WHAT OR WHO INSPIRES YOUR WORK?

We take inspiration for our work from everywhere, books, film, theatre, art galleries, drag performances. But we really love being able to travel to other countries and go to clubs, galleries, festivals, and performances and take in all we can globally and bring it home to our local community.

WHO ARE YOUR DREAM DINNER PARTY GUESTS & WHY?

Carl Jung, famous psychologist. He seemed so wise, very fascinated with the psyche. Andy Warhol, feel like he wasn’t just a very innovative artist but also great at marketing, would love to pick his brains. Frida Kahlo a boss lady in the art world long before most other females, would love to get the gossip on her personal life and how it affected/inspired her work. Elon Musk, for some inspiration and to maybe collaborate on some super innovative ideas, merging science and art. And then probably Salvador Dali, you always need one mad man at a party to keep everyone entertained.
